Audience Member The movie is a typical muslim social, full of Lucknawi grace, poetic language, a nawabi style of living, grand palaces, gorgeous clothes, diaphanous purdahs, fluttering curtains, grand pianos, shairi, adaabs, men in sherwani, women in ghararas. In short, it is full of all good things one can wish for. Nawab Bulund Akhtar Changezi (Ashok Kumar) is a Judge and a blue blood nawab. His younger sister Husna has just returned from Aligarh after completing her B.A. Anwar Hussain (Rajendra Kumar) is a rising poet who is inspired to sing a long and a beautiful poem - Mere mehboob tujhe - after he bumps into a lovely burkha clad woman. He is convinced she is his soulmate and he loves her, sight unseen. The girl, Husna, feels the same about him. Anwar's family was also a blue blood one, but due to some financial misfortunes, they fell on hard times. He and his sister found themselves as helpless orphans. The older sister Najma (Nimmi) had to support her brother by dancing on stage. Nawab Aktar loves her, but cannot accept her as a wife because she is a dancer. Due to a misunderstanding, for a while, Anwar thinks Husna's friend Naseem (Ameeta) is the girl he is looking for. After the misunderstanding is cleared, he apologizes, but poor Naseem has been struck by the cupid's arrow. The plot has many more twists and turns before everyone settles down happily with their respected beloved's by their side. In the meantime, we are treated to one gorgeous song after the other, one beautiful setting after the other, one beautiful dress after the other. Our senses are bombarded with beauty.
