What to Know

Critics Consensus

Mickey 17 finds Bong Joon Ho returning to his forte of daffy sci-fi with a withering social critique at its core, proving along the way that you can never have too many Robert Pattisons.

Audience Says

The satirically saucy Mickey 17 eschews subtlety and embraces a convoluted plot that even when it drags, it's still weird and interesting.

Claudia Puig FilmWeek (LAist) I feel like this movie was made by a Bong Joon-ho admirer who wanted to make a pastiche of Bong Joon-ho movies, but it's just not as good as the other ones. May 9, 2025 Full Review Tim Cogshell FilmWeek (LAist) I assume this works as a narrative for a book -- not so much as a narrative for cinema. May 9, 2025 Full Review Adam Kempenaar Filmspotting But Mickey 17 doesn’t have Okja’s same level of compassion and humanity, nor is the critique of capitalism and class inequality as acidly rich as it is in Snowpiercer or Parasite. Rated: 2.5/5 May 2, 2025 Full Review Emmet Asher-Perrin Reactor It is a story about many things, but perhaps, ultimately, a story about getting the catharsis we are due. Jul 28, 2025 Full Review Guillermo Troncoso Screen Realm Mickey 17 doesn’t quite reach the heights of Bong’s best work, but it’s an entertaining, well-performed satire with flashes of brilliance. It’s dark, goofy, and occasionally thought-provoking, even if it trades depth for obviousness. Rated: 3.5/5 Jul 27, 2025 Full Review Tim Miller Cape Cod Wave Magazine Robert Pattinson plays Mickey Barnes, ... who performs lethal assignments for a space expedition. ... Pattinson’s high-pitched, Marty McFly delivery as the hard-luck Mickey is funny in itself, as are the horrific situations in which he finds himself. SASQUATCH88 interesting concept for Elon Musk idea for Mars Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/27/25 Full Review lester just wish it had more .. it was quirky and strange and really wanted more of that ... decent film tho with good acting all around. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 07/18/25 Full Review billycsutton Great story line! Nothing like it and was something fresh and new to watch! 4 star! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/08/25 Full Review Bryant Original but boring. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 07/07/25 Full Review Joshua D Its like a 3.7/5. Good but a little too long. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 07/06/25 Full Review Dhruv S Mickey17 has an interesting premise a great performance by Robert Pattinson and not much else. The plot is stretched far too long and meandering. The films social commentary attempts to tackle far too many subjects but only exploring a few with any depth. Mark Ruffalo overacts which leads to a villain you cant take seriously. You cant get invested in either the plot or any of the side characters. It certainly is a unique risk but that's where the films merits end.
