Miriam Bale New York Times This weird comedy meanders into heartfelt, complex areas about the regrets, attachments and abandonment of the aged. Jan 30, 2014 Full Review Michael Nordine Village Voice Hwang mines seemingly every possible cliché and contrivance from this universal anxiety, but little of the joie de vivre implied by its wish-fulfilling narrative. Jan 28, 2014 Full Review Jae-Ha Kim Jae-Ha Kim (Substack) “Miss Granny” director Hwang Dong-hyuk ("Squid Game") takes an old premise (an elderly woman finds herself transformed into a 20 year old) and adds twists and social commentary. The result? A charming comedy full of scenes that will tug at your heart. Rated: 4/4 Jul 26, 2023 Full Review Sarah Boslaugh PopMatters ...side-splittingly hilarious but also has a heart... Rated: 8/10 Aug 3, 2014 Full Review Russell Edwards sbs.com.au After an hour-and-a-half of near non-stop laughter, this 124-minute film hits squarely on that sore spot where the fear of death, a grief for a misspent youth and the joys of a life we mostly don't appreciate, uneasily co-exist. Rated: 4/5 Feb 21, 2014 Full Review David Noh Film Journal International Writer-director Hwang Dong Hyuk has fashioned an abrasively funny farce, filled with droll, observant details about Korean pop culture...and the always farcically fertile, highly combative family unit. For me, the start was a little iffy but from the photo studio till the end it ran the gamut of emotions. I was laughing, identifying and yes, crying. Not Train to Busan bawling but eye-brimming tears. Emotionally satisfying. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/13/23 Full Review Audience Member My daughter asked me to see it - it was spectacular! Hillarious, yet poignant. Definitely one of the best movies I've seen on Netflix. I think the US critics missed it, but what got me is the backstory of a woman who survived post-war Korea through grit and determination. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member A very amusing and heart warming movie. I really liked it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member Parts of it doesn't make sense, and some exaggerated antics can be annoying, but the end product is surprisingly likable due to some good performances, and because of the important messages it carry about the elderly in a non pedantice manner. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Audience Member A precoius gem of a movie! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member Fabulous all the way. fun story. Fantastic cast.
