eddie L @RT56257916 Jul 20 This movie makes a solid attempt at a social media/found footage film, but in the end, it falls a little flat. Well, maybe a lot flat. The representation of a lifestyles social media vlog account does ring true, and the acting is surprisingly good for such a low-budget project. The special effects aren't so special, and the plot sometimes proceeds at a painfully slow crawl. And speaking of the plot, this movie can't seem to decide what it actually is. Is it a story about the dangers of exposing too much of your life to perfect strangers online, or is it a ghost story leaning heavily on local lore? It's hard to tell, especially with the somewhat confusing ending. But it's not a bad watch. Again, the acting was fine, and the characters had some depth, although the antagonist was a mess in every respect. I don't regret watching it; it's an entertaining little film, as long as you don't go in expecting high art. I certainly don't regret spending the 90 minutes of runtime watching it. The ending was a little bit of a letdown, but the movie had me invested in the outcome of the four characters. It felt like I was watching an actual vlog at the beginning, which is impressive. There are some lingering questions, primarily since this is a found footage film. The main question is, who found this footage? I can only be led to assume that Arlo uploaded all of the footage. Overall, a good watch even with the less than excited ending and the unanswered questions. See more Darren D @DarrenJD Mar 16 "#Missingcouple" is an admirable attempt in the ever-growing found footage market, and I have some appreciation for this little horror mystery, despite my view of the 3rd act. Narratively it takes the time to allow the personalities of the characters to break free & feel natural as the performances from the couple felt genuine in front of the camera when we're the audience to their social media lifestyle of renovation & their privacy behind the camera which we aren't privileged to, then it smoothly transitions from the couple lives on social media into the internet community of websleuths. After all of the good intentions that went into setting up the previous acts, the 3rd act fell into a bizarre area of feeling ham-fisted with no subtlety & moving away from its direction wanting to do too much without the execution.
