[The film's] moments of the girls enjoying their friendship have an appealing freshness that almost matches the quality of the bangers on the soundtrack. Go to Full Review

Valerie Weiss' very-young-adult dramedy is... a (deep) cut above the usual tween fare. Go to Full Review

‘Mixtape’ is a film you can watch after a tiring day at work when you wish and hope to go back to your happy 90s days when the world was not yet tech-savvy. A film you can indulge in knowing there is a happy ending and there are better days. Go to Full Review

Ultimately, the heartfelt Mixtape isn't only about remembering the past and taking something from it. It's about making new friends and memories, too. Go to Full Review

With a great lead performance from young Gemma Brooke Allen, Mixtape finds its heartwarming message in notes of fun nostalgia and some post-punk volume. Go to Full Review

The lead female role was outclassed by her British teenage counterpart, so cringworthy the facial expressions in the cafe on their catch up. The rest of the Australian cast are just as wooden. Such a great episode of Summer Bay, expect it wasn't meant to be. Wondering if they ever watch their own work back? Are their friends honest with them? Really good plot otherwise. Her journey of discovery is quite joyful and there is a lovely nostalgia to her relationship with her best friends and the era in which it is set, millennium bug fear and all. See more wayne m 02/23/2022 Mixtape is a small gem of a film. It's fresh, fun and sweet. Even though it can be a little sentimental it's definitely a film with its heart in the right place. Set in late 1999 in Spokane, Washington, Beverly lives with her grandmother Gail. Beverly's parents died when she was very young and she really has no memories of them. One day she finds a mixtape made by her mum but as she starts to play it the tape unravels. She then goes on a quest to find the songs, which leads her to the local record store. With little money on her she eventually gets to hear them all over time. It becomes a quest not only to hear the songs but also to try and connect with a mother she never knew. Beverly is also very shy, so the film represents a coming out party for her. It's all done with a keen eye on personalities and relationships, set to a great soundtrack that makes for a very fun experience. See more Read all reviews
