Matt Brunson Film Frenzy For those who can land on its wavelength, it's an attractive and offbeat picture, almost as interested in its Los Angeles setting as in its central characters. Rated: 3/4 Aug 29, 2021 Full Review Cole Smithey ColeSmithey.com This is a movie you can dream into, even as nightmare glimpses of American sexual repression and capitalist culture of greed and war come and go. F R This film was made in 1969. The Vietnam War hangs over the protagonist's head. George (Gary Lockwood) is alienated from everything. He lives in an oil field. His girlfriend broken up with him. He cannot pay his car note. No one will lend him money. He got drafted. George followed a girl to the "Model Shop", where he falls in love with Cecile (Anouk Aimee). He does not know the person, yet he loves her. Yawn ! This creep talks about mortality. He talks about love. Yet he is self absorbed and he pouts. The film ends with George telling Cecile's roommate, Barbara over the phone that he wants to start again. Even the supposed renaissance offered to him by Cecilia is cheap and meaningless. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 10/29/23 Full Review Chun P An exploration of existential angst in LA during the mid-1960s. Reminiscent of Antonioni's interest in middle-class ennui. Which were addressed in his trilogies. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 07/18/23 Full Review Audience Member As a model enthusiast was hoping to watch a film about model shops like https://model-universe.com however it had nothing to do with model shops and was hard to follow. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Audience Member This movie made no sense, but it was lovely to look at. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member Aimless and ambling in the best sort of fashion—and the mid-60s fashion on display the here, from the colorful clothes to the convertible cars, is itself of the best sort—Jacques Demy's first American film seems to perfectly capture its time and its place, even if it doesn't always capture your attention. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Audience Member This film will take you to the last days of the 60's Revolution. The moral of the story..? Don't be like George.
