A seventy-two-hour whirlwind in the life of bohemian artist Amedeo Modigliani (Riccardo Scamarcio), known as 'Modi' to his friends, follows a chaotic series of events through the streets of war torn Paris in 1916. On the run from the police, the desire to end his career and leave the city is dismissed by fellow artists Maurice Utrillo (Bruno Gouery), Chaïm Soutine (Ryan McParland) and Modi's muse, Beatrice Hastings (Antonia Desplat). Modi seeks advice from his art dealer and friend, Leopold Zborowski (Stephen Graham) -- however, after a night of hallucinations, the chaos in Modi's mind reaches a crescendo when faced with an American collector, Maurice Gangnat (Al Pacino), who has the power to change his life.

Glenn Kenny New York Times The energetic and arguably strenuous performance by the lead actor, Riccardo Scamarcio, is something of a flex, to be sure. Nov 6, 2025 Full Review Donald Clarke Irish Times The more it goes on the clearer it becomes that, though Depp no doubt admires Modigliani’s work, his real passion here is for the eternally intoxicating fantasy of Parisian bohemia. Rated: 3/5 Jul 16, 2025 Full Review Kevin Maher The Times (UK) Every single scene here is about what the scene is about, creating the deepest vat of cinematic sh*t imaginable. Rated: 1/5 Jul 16, 2025 Full Review Edward Douglas The Weekend Warrior (Substack) Should be particularly revelatory to anyone who regularly makes art… but isn’t earning a living by doing so. Rated: 7.5/10 Nov 6, 2025 Full Review Avi Offer NYC Movie Guru An engrossing, funny and provocative character study of a complex artist. Nov 4, 2025 Full Review Ellen E Jones Observer (UK) There are flashes of originality and beauty, but only when glimpsed in Modigliani’s works. The film’s own uninspired composition suffers greatly from the comparison. Oct 7, 2025 Full Review Read all reviews
