      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Writer-director Alison Murray has a clear connection to the story, but Mouth to Mouth is too disjointed and thinly sketched to satisfy.

Audience Member more interesting once you find out that the director herself ran away from her home in Canada all the way to London when she was fifteen, but that doesn't change the fact that this film is significantly flawed. This works as a good vehicle for a young Ellen Page, but it just never drew me into what should be a very interesting story of a young girl experiencing the world with a group in a similar state as she is in. The film also builds up to something happening at the end to resolve everything, however, this never happens, and the conclusion left me completely unsatisfied. Worth a watch if you are a fan of Ellen Page, but other than that, this is not a movie that I would necessarily recommend. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Audience Member The grim truth about how vulnerable people can be....and then how manipulated and abused they can become.... Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review simon d Ellen Page is so bloody annoying in this as a stereotypical outcast shoegazing teen bore that I think I preferred her in that roller skating thing she did. She's not the only one mind, the whole cast of characters are all due a good slap. The film is stupidly flawed from the word go yet, if you carry on watching, it does turn into something a bit different which is just about worth a watch. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/20/23 Full Review Audience Member This was just plain weird. There are scenes where the characters engage in interpretive dance with one another that just didn't sit right with me. It was an interesting angle on cult communities but failed to hit the mark for me. My main issue is that I just didn't care one ounce for any of the characters so as they got sucked further and further into the cult it really didn't impact on me as the audience. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/09/23 Full Review Audience Member this was very different for Ellen Page than her role in Juno, and she was great. Scott Brown Entertainment Weekly Writer-director Alison Murray picks at a hard, true hurt in this zombie melodrama of defloration, but nothing beyond that hurt really comes into focus. May 12, 2020 Full Review J. R. Jones Chicago Reader ...this subversive little drama by Alison Murray turns the notion of adulthood on its head. May 12, 2020 Full Review Anna Smith Empire Magazine Page is strong as sparky yet vulnerable Sherry, although the talents of the supporting cast are variable... Rated: 3/5 May 12, 2020 Full Review Kent Turner Film-Forward.com ...because the motivations in Mouth to Mouth are general, the cast has to provide the depth that the script lacks, but the film is not aided by the eye-rolling school of acting. May 12, 2020 Full Review Chris Tinkham Under the Radar Mouth to Mouth is, despite its rough edges, adventurous in spirit and concept, but eventually the film's narrative arc buckles under the weight of inevitability. Rated: 5/10 May 12, 2020 Full Review Jennie Kermode Eye for Film Mouth To Mouth is a remarkably accomplished piece of work from first-time feature director Alison Murray. Meandering along, apparently aimless, it builds up a grip which just won't let go. Don't miss it. Rated: 4.5/5 Mar 31, 2020 Full Review Read all reviews
