Critics Consensus

A mean-spirited joke without a punchline, Mr. Wrong is so painfully unfunny that Ellen DeGeneres and Bill Pullman's lack of chemistry feels like a total drag despite being the point.

Audience Member Fast forward through the movie if you dare, I did and it was still work. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Audience Member This movie is grossly underrated. Joan Cusack and Dean Stockwell are exceptional. Bill Pullman pulls of just the right amount of wry wit. There are also little touches, such as Bill's character actually getting uglier as his luster fades. The one shortcoming is Ellen's performance, which is a bit stiffer than her character was meant to be, or that is how it comes off. But hey, Ellen is a stand up comedian, and a successful television host. Her acting was a short foray and she had no time to develop those skills. One may also keep in mind this was shortly before Ellen came out as gay, so that may have added some pressure. All in all I have see this movie about 20 times and will be watching many more. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review jonathan m ) Switch Ellen for Bette Midler or Barbara Streisand or Lanie Kazan and Bill for Danny Devito and add a few more jokes hey presto. Ellen is good in some things but sadley not this. To be fair Ellen is always just herself. She is not a good character actress. I mean I watched it and was like ok it's not so terrible that I wana burn my TV. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Lesley E Ok, not the funniest movie in the world, but certainly not the worst rom-com ever. Seriously, 7%!!! I think the critics were overly harsh with this film. Yeah, the humour is outdated and a bit flat at times, but I still wouldn't call this the worst rom-com ever made. My final verdict: 2 and a half stars: even with its flaws, it's still an interesting movie to watch and wouldn't mind re-watching or recommending this to someone. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 08/24/20 Full Review Audience Member Saw this in the theater, and over half the audience walked out. It had so much potential to be funny, which made it even worse. Ellen tells the story of how she accidentally murdered her husband on their wedding day. When she meets and falls for him, she realized that her perfect Mr. Right is anything but, and tries to break up. He is a sociopath, drugs and kidnaps her to marry him. Should've been hilarious, but it's 2 hrs of your life that you'll never get back. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review steve d Bill Pullman is a blast, the film is not.
