Bob Thomas Associated Press You wouldn't expect much from the title, but it turns out to be a social study that compares favorably to last season's topper, A Place in the Sun. Steve D Sad to see Trevor reduced to such a nothing role in a nothing film. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 04/06/24 Full Review Audience Member I'm continuing my Richardo Montalban kick. William A. Wellman directed this oddball, though intriguing, melodrama. Ricardo is a hardworking immigrant trying to make his way in the US when he runs avows a crooked farmer and his wife, Shelley Winters. I won't give away where it goes, but it's echoes of "The Postman Always Rings Twice." The film kind of goes in several directions, part Horatio Alger, part noir, part courtroom drama, part romance, but the pieces don't all quite gel. Montalban is good and Winters is her usual unconventional self. And speaking of unconventional, but in a good way, Jack Elam plays one of Montalban's colorful friends.
