Tara Brady Irish Times A late narrative development swerves the meet-cute into less sure-footed terrain. But this remains an encounter to treasure, jollied along by quiet political protest and poignant notes on widowhood. Rated: 4/5 Sep 28, 2024 Full Review Wendy Ide Observer (UK) Plans have a way of going awry in this lovely, intimate, tragicomic tale of late-blooming love in the shadow of Iran’s repressive regime. In its gentle way, this is a subversive piece of film-making. Rated: 4/5 Sep 16, 2024 Full Review Fatima Sheriff Little White Lies My Favourite Cake is a slice-of-life film with considered dialogue and heartfelt performances that unravels a culturally specific repression... Rated: 3/5 Sep 14, 2024 Full Review John McDonald johnmcdonald.net.au It requires a good deal of bravery to make a film such as My Favourite Cake, kicking against the boundaries of what is permissable under this regime. Dec 10, 2024 Full Review Andiee Paviour Nobody's Reading This But Me A solitary Iranian widow’s subversive tilt at life speaks condemning volumes. Rated: 4/5 Dec 4, 2024 Full Review Nadine Whitney AWFJ.org My Favourite Cake is an act of hope, desire, and a sumptuous treat. It is also sad, furious, and pushing against a regime that stifles basic humanity. Glorious and heartrending. Rated: A+ Nov 20, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews

David H Learned some cultural situations and social economic issues of the Iranian elderlies. Camera lens moves slow, same with conversations and plot, but the director smartly engages the audience and makes it not boring. Unexpected ending. Worthy of dissection and discussion. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 12/20/24 Full Review Audience Member Very warm movie with some bits of comedy. The end was a bit predictable but still it shows the unique experience of two elder people getting to know each other and flirting a bit in a very organic manner. Recommend to watch at least once! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 12/13/24 Full Review Praveen G An absolutely stunning, but utterly devastating film. Unlike anything you've ever seen before, or will ever see again.
