Noel Murray AV Club Georgian writer-director Nana Ekvtimishvili (In Bloom) brings a rare subtlety and sensitivity to this ironically titled domestic drama. Moe D Simple, lovely and amazing!! Tone, tone, tone, understood immediately why the lead character made the choice she ultimately made. The writing, directing and acting was so clear. A breath of fresh air for the the main character, Manana and me! The story unfolds beautifully with absolutely no artifice. I need that song that Manana sings at the reunion...beautiful!! Seems some who didn't like this film watched a dubbed version, That is never a good thing, except in John Woo's The Killer!! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/02/22 Full Review Audience Member Loved this film. Easy to relate to a woman who, for no apparent reason she wants to leave her current life. And I write apparent as later, it becomes obvious why her soul felt crushed. The cinematography is beautifully done- Manana, is the main character, a teacher, living in Tbilisi the capital of Georgia. she is a mum to two teenagers and also shares the apartment with her parents and husband Soso whom, when she decides to leave the family home and move into an apartment of her own, she is met with disbelief by nearly everyone around her. The bravery she shows in going it alone from her cramped living space to the solitary existence of a run down though liberating apartment. Little by little we see her try to resurrect a life for herself- the frantic paced apartment she shared with the sparring family to a room with french doors opening to views of trees bending and swaying in the wind. Her restoration of the place she lives in and the new life forms of her planting tomatoes on her balcony are in parallel to her own growth- Her liberation. I highly recommend this film. Accidently found it and while the ending is very film art house in its non blatant non explanatory "ohhh is that the ending?" feeling. Its like life in that nothing remains completely satisfactorily answered (to me the viewer) Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Audience Member Es una película extranjera que se puede ver en Netflix; está muy bien realizada y es realista; las actuaciones son excelentes, la trama es buena y la cinematografía está decente; es recomendable y vale totalmente la pena. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/16/23 Full Review Audience Member Very slooooo moving...good acting...great singing.. atmosphere...but ultimately...boring as hell... watched till the end... always expecting that dramatic moment of break through...but..in the end ..zilch...no climax... nothing Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member It might be the best movie I've seen in longtime.
