Audience Member Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water the Motion Picture is an unfortunate disappointment. This is especially tragic because the television series that came before the movie was a pretty decent anime. The beginning of the movie opens with impressive scenes from London in the 1890s. However, it quickly turns to just past clips from the televised series for an unnecessary amount of time. After what feels like 20 minutes into the movie, new animation and a comprehensible plot finally appears. For all the past clips from the TV series the creators thought important to include, only five characters from the original TV series remain. King (Nadia's pet lion), Little Marie, Ayerton, nor any surviving crew from the Nautilus are featured in this film. There is also a new young adult female character that goes by the name of "Fuzzy." I could not take this character seriously. In the Japanese language version of the movie the original voice actors resume there respected roles which is a plus. However, Jean (the male protagonist) who is now appears to be in his late teens and still sounds like he is 12 years old from back in the TV series. However, the movie's animation is poorly draw, the plot underdeveloped and the wonderful Science Fiction story telling that was so prevalent in the TV series is just not present in this feature. Watch it if you feel like you need to watch both the TV series and movie to "be complete" but you have been warned! There isn't really very much to care about in this anime, considering how poorly done the english voice acting is and how boring this show can get. There's barely any romantic moments between Nadia and Jean and they don't really save the world very well.
