I M Although the production/direction/cinematography and even the plot and writing are mediocre at best, the 50's atmosphere is convincing and Kim Basinger's performance is terrific. Joel E. Siegel Chicago Reader If only Benson had a more dynamic visual style, he could cross over to directing TV spots. But since his dim imagination and dead eye are not up to that exacting task, I suggest he might be most fruitfully employed drawing Cokes at some concession stand. Rated: 0/4 May 9, 2022 Full Review Roger Ebert Chicago Sun-Times I didn't laugh very much in this movie. There were a couple of genuinely funny moments, but they didn't build and the movie didn't redeem itself by making me very interested in the characters. Rated: 2.5/4 Jan 1, 2000 Full Review Molly Haskell Video Review Writer-director Benton’s feeling for the endless surprises of domestic intimacy (Kramer vs. Kramer) and the built-in resilience of Southern communal life (Places in the Heart) come together in this lighthearted mock-thriller. Rated: 3/4 Aug 5, 2022 Full Review Dennis Schwartz Dennis Schwartz Movie Reviews The uneven, insubstantial slapstick comedy is good for a few chuckles playing the white trash joke card.
