Audience Member General impression: Someone actually bought a copy of the LARP game Cyberworld and had an amateur filmmaker with pretensions of being Ridley Scott film it. The highs: Decent scenery work for a low-budget (presumably) film, physical effects rather than CGI, the use of fog and light is effective and reminds me of cyberpunk classics like Blade Runner but that's mostly because they're aping Scott's style. For the era the computer-generated effects are not great but I've seen far, far worse. Camera work is decent for a low-budget film The Bad: The acting, the dialogue, oh man it's bad. The plot is pretty much nonsensical. The kind of bare-bones "string together action scenes" plot usually reserved for video games that take cyberpunk visuals and throw all that complicated mood and themes stuff right out the window. The setting is as generic as you can get for cyberpunk, some vague megacorporation, a death row inmate, blah blah blah, stitch together Cyberpunk 2020, some blade runner, a bit of Running Man, add a dash of drug use for good measure. It shares the same "drugs are bad but boy are they awesome" kind of vision of the future Cyberworld had which makes me think this all started as a LARP game gone wrong.
