David Edelstein NPR Here is one more piece of the puzzle that is American life - a piece that has never made it to the screen before. You wonder how many others are missing. Jan 29, 2016 Full Review Sheila O'Malley RogerEbert.com There are some very good individual sequences, and Naz and Maalik's romance is vulnerable and touching, but the film doesn't hang together. Rated: 2.5/4 Jan 22, 2016 Full Review Stephen Holden New York Times Despite its deficiencies, "Naz & Maalik" feels authentic, and Mr. Johnson and Mr. Cook bring their characters completely alive. Jan 21, 2016 Full Review Kip Mooney College Movie Review [The] lead actors and camerawork are stellar. Rated: B Aug 29, 2021 Full Review Aaron Peterson The Hollywood Outsider If you are open-minded enough to spend some quality time with two gay guys struggling with their own identities, then you will find something sweetly unique in Naz & Maalik. Rated: 6.5/10 Oct 25, 2018 Full Review Emily Wheeler Film Inquiry Naz and Maalik themselves are unique, but the story they're put in doesn't delve deep enough into the issues that it naturally brings up to be truly satisfying. larimer l This was actually a beautiful film, the romance and the conversations (and eventually a plot point at the end) regarding altruism is well done. The chemistry and conversations feel real, such a niche subject matter but I actually relate to the characters in a lot of ways. So well done, I feel like this movie is in a lot of conversations about Black Queer films but I want it to be even more popular. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member “2 gay dudes walk into a mosque.” Decent film that does a lot in one day. The whole FBI part felt not all -the -way thought out but everything else was nice Rated 3 out of 5 stars 06/05/18 Full Review Audience Member Inconclusa, ese final incomprensible Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Here is one more piece of the puzzle that is American life - a piece that has never made it to the screen before.
