When Ballister Boldheart (Riz Ahmed), a knight in a futuristic medieval world, is framed for a crime he didn't commit, the only one who can help him prove his innocence is Nimona (Chloë Grace Moretz), a mischievous teen with a taste for mayhem -- who also happens to be a shapeshifting creature Ballister has been trained to destroy. But with the entire kingdom out to get him, Nimona's the best (or technically the only) sidekick Ballister can hope for. And as the lines between heroes, villains, and monsters start to blur, the two of them set out to wreak serious havoc -- for Ballister to clear his name once and for all, and for Nimona to... just wreak serious havoc.

Christy Lemire Breakfast All Day I think it's the third act's a little weak, but I enjoyed it very much and has got a lot to say. Rated: 7.5/10 Feb 8, 2024 Full Review Alonso Duralde Breakfast All Day Its message is powerful but subtle, and I like the animation style a lot. Rated: 9/10 Feb 8, 2024 Full Review Heather Hogan Autostraddle Just as Stevenson somehow magicked Netflix into green-lighting She-Ra and the Princesses of Power's unmatched all-ages queer storytelling, he bamboozled them with Nimona too. This baby is gay. Jul 5, 2023 Full Review Ben Turner The Pink Lens It has fight after battle after skirmish after fight, which is certainly exciting but feels somewhat formulaic. But then, what else could possibly happen in a futuristic medieval kingdom? Rated: 4/5 May 30, 2024 Full Review Yasser Medina Cinefilia Its strength lies in the cel shading animation that renders character design and medieval-futuristic settings, but its fantasy is weakened by a simplistic plot that repeatedly falls into the zone of the most generic clichés. [Full review in Spanish] Rated: 5/10 Feb 27, 2024 Full Review John Paul King Washington Blade In its unequivocal and undiluted embrace of the queer experience of “otherness” which lies (barely) beneath its every nuance, it becomes the inclusive, gay-and-trans-affirming parable it was always intended to be. Alec I liked the characters and actor performances. The plot and dialogue were below average and could have benefited from more time, even though there were five or six writers credited. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 07/10/23 Full Review Nick R Great animation and a good story with many heartfelt moments to pull you in. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/04/24 Full Review Haylie Brendan T Remember when Arcoss the Spider-verse was my favorite movie? Yeah, not anymore. METAL🤘🏻🤘🏻 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/03/24 Full Review TROY S Netflix’s Nimona confronts the monster of intolerance in a funny and tender family film that’s perfect for Pride Month. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/18/24 Full Review Liranks G The visuals and the world that is built is certainly interesting and beautiful, taking you in quickly. Then the movie throws a lot of chaotic action scenes at you, that work with the premises in such a creative and charming way, that you have no choice but to be entertained. The first act introduces the characters, of which most are genuinely likable, and leads into a captivating plot. The second act is where most of the enjoyable action happened. Always underwritten with a charming humor. The third act falls a little flat for me. For one, Nimona's character, that was introduced as brutally violent with no regard for murder and mutilation, suddenly gets rebranded as a misunderstood being with harmony in mind. Then the premise of the world gets broken up in a somewhat interesting way, leading to a kind of weak ending with at least an enjoyable happy ending. Final note: A day after watching I thought it was strange, that in a movie that emphasizes on writing more modern, morally sound characters a major plot point is thatNimona (a millenia old, shapeshifting being) is in an obsessive relationship with a small girl and this never gets questioned. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 10/15/24 Full Review Franlesky I Beautiful, visually attractive, in line with current trends, attractive and engaging with a plot without equal, suitable characters, where you touch from the emotional to the war, a film that is definitely worth seeing.
