Robert Abele Los Angeles Times Despite an awkwardly jokey title, Now, Forager has charm, intelligence and a cool passion for its principled characters -- an appealing off-menu slice for hungry indie admirers. Rated: 3/5 Aug 20, 2013 Full Review Neil Young Hollywood Reporter Likeably unassuming, good-looking US indie may exert offbeat appeal to the foodie crowd. Aug 20, 2013 Full Review Variety Staff Variety A lack of dramatic force and zero chemistry between the leads make the film play like a compilation of episodes rather than a flowing narrative, but two sequences are inspired, and the rest has an earnest if underwhelming appeal. Aug 20, 2013 Full Review Marc Mohan Oregonian Despite its punning title, this is an earnest, absorbing drama set at the intersection of countercultural idealism and gastronomical sophistication. Aug 20, 2013 Full Review Mark Adams Screen International Mushrooms, food and romance collide in Jason Cortlund and Julia Halperin's modestly charming indie debut. Aug 20, 2013 Full Review Matthew Odam Austin American-Statesman Now, Forager beautifully depicts the connection between nature and our plates and bleakly portrays how obsession and rigidity can slowly smother a relationship. Audience Member I don't know why this film has such a low RT score. I just saw it last week and loved it. It's more of an art film along the lines of Robert Bresson's DIARY OF A COUNTRY PRIEST or Krzysztof Zanussi's STRUCTURE OF CRYSTALS--or Bob Rafelson's FIVE EASY PIECES--than anything else. It's certainly not a twee little film about self-congratulatory Foodies preaching the virtues of organics. It's actually a very smart, dark thought-provoking film about alienation and male melancholy that stays with you. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member Beautiful, touching. Fine, unobtrusive sound track. I think tthe two of us found it real. Hard not to love her, hard not to feel sorry for him, trapped in an especially immature idealism. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member What happened to those mushroom bandits? Can we get a movie about them? Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review Read all reviews
