William Repass Slant Magazine The film’s naïve utopianism is infectious, demanding that we live as though life were worth it in spite of all evidence to the contrary. Rated: 3/4 Apr 24, 2023 Full Review Emanuel Levy EmanuelLevy.Com Rated: 3/5 Jun 29, 2005 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member LETTERBOX. Toda una experiencia. Un manejo del absurdo realmente excepcional, y una pareja de protagonistas nada menos que memorable. Un ejemplo de que la sátira no tiene que seguir el modelo de los mamuts egocéntricos de Kubrick. / An experience in itself. A really exceptional handling of the absurd, with a protagonist couple who are nothing if not memorable. This shows that satire doesn't have to follow the model of Kubrick's egocentric mammoths. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/21/23 Full Review stefan c Definitely one of the most impressive movies produced by Romanian cinema, The Oak is a strange symbiosis between two "weird" extrovert characters and the communist regime. It all falls so swiftly into place that the film often feels part of a ludicrous adventure into a fairy tale. Sounds mad and actually is, just that it's terribly good!
