Ronald B. Rogers Village Voice A visit to your local theatre will convince you that Oklahoma! is a fresh and lively as ever. May 10, 2022 Full Review TIME Magazine In spite of its age and the fact that its 145-minute mass is sometimes dragging, Oklahoma! hollers itself home as a handsome piece of entertainment. Oct 27, 2015 Full Review Variety Staff Variety The wide screen used for the Todd-AO process adds production scope and visual grandeur, capturing a vista of blue sky and green prairie that can be breathtaking. Nov 1, 2007 Full Review Matt Brunson Film Frenzy The soundtrack is exceptional, and Gloria Grahame swipes a few scenes as Ado Annie, the girl who just “cain’t say no.” Rated: 3.5/4 Mar 2, 2024 Full Review Grant Watson Fiction Machine This film is bright, bold, and enthusiastic. It is the 1955 equivalent of a studio blockbuster: big-screen entertainment for the masses. Alec B Despite a few annoying cuts/changes to the score and some weird casting choices it is a solid adaptation of the stage musical. Getting to film outside for several sequences (as opposed to a studio set) is one of the best things about the movie, especially for its rousing opening number. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 05/29/24 Full Review Jose G Classic 50's film musical based on the 40's stage musical, the first written by Rodgers & Hammerstein. Shirley Jones shines in her first role in a motion picture, and the song and dance numbers still hold up fantastically-save for a couple that could've probably been omitted to shorten the run time. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/30/23 Full Review Joel B It was a weird film, just weird... One of the songs is just trying to convince the main villain to commit suicide... It hasn't aged well. I am not gonna watch it again. Some of the other songs and special affects are nice but the plot is just strange... Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 11/27/23 Full Review David F Beautiful scenery, and a lot of singing and dancing make for a great show, but the plot about a bickering pair that you know is going to be married by the time you see "The End" was pretty limp. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 08/28/23 Full Review Joshua H A musical with classic songs that have aged well, while being an incredibly important for musical's as an genre and a simple well told story that is a really good watch. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review robert p Giving a sanatized look at life in the old west thats all hunky dory but life just wasn't like this, for example no toilet paper! For that reason alone I give Oklahoma a four star rating. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Read all reviews
