Audience Member definitely not a film to watch after a bad day. While it offers a perspective on Japan's subcultures you won't find in mainstream films, OKOGE brings out the worst case scenario for almost all the characters involved in its story. With Misa Shimizu on the verge of mainstream stardom at the time, I'm wondering if this film actually did her career in, as it seems most of her later work had her playing characters with so much dysfunction that made it difficult for audience to accept her in more mainstream films. This is one of those films that gives off the same kind of negative vibe as the likes of GUMMO, HAPPINESS, MAGNOLIA, & IRREVERSIBLE.
