Blue H. @Bluehill Nov 11 so reassuring that films like this exist. See more Peggy M Jul 7 I was surprised by the sweetness and complexity. Lovely film quality, script and acting at it's best. All of it just worked and is easy to watch. Teacher of what love can be - hope many see the film. See more Mike G Jan 22 I’m sorry but all the positive reviews have left me flabbergasted! Believe me I wanted to engage with this movie, especially having had to face the prospect of IVF myself. The story line is a serious one and absolutely merits attention. But my partner and I felt nothing for the two characters. The acting was well-intentioned but neither of us got any sense of real chemistry between these two. Yes we saw a portrayal of what people in love should look like, but that’s not the same as feeling it… we were never drawn into them as individuals, the script kept everything at a perfunctory level. We received the bare minimum of their traits and who they were as people; there was just nothing to feel invested in. We need to fall in love with them too! To see their foibles, the development of their relationship, a sense of their chemistry! Even the way they made decisions seemed superficial. As a self-confessed romantic, it was so disappointing not to be absorbed into what could have been a marvellous movie. To call it ‘grown up’ is just an excuse to turn it into a semi-documentary where bare facts are sufficient to explain the tough issues this awful situation poses. Shame… See more 07/15/2024 So, you find the one and then you can't have everything you yearn for. Only You is a powerful, captivating film about love and what it means to be a family, with authentic, intimate, raw and heartbreaking performances from Laia Costa and Josh O'Connor. The story is acutely observed and brims with charm from the Elvis Costello song to Elena's fragility about being older than Jake. While Josh O'Connor is magnetic as young man who is confident in love. I love how the film examines the random miracle and unfairness of life. One man gets his girlfriend pregnant and he cuts and runs. It's a shock. While our starcrossed lovers can't make a baby no matter how hard they try. Watch it, have a damned fine cry and thank your lucky stars if you have a lover who never stops gazing at you with love and admiration, because you are perfect just as you are. See more isla s 09/03/2022 This is quite an insightful film, in terms of depicting an age gap relationship with a lady who struggles to conceive and the way the relationship is affected by that. The performances are good and it felt quite raw and open. Its not a film I'd want to watch again but its certainly worth seeing if it sounds of interest to you, yes. See more 07/01/2021 There's honesty, and basis on a type of relationship that repeats in real life. I did expect there'd be more of an emotional connection between the main characters, though. Overall, very good, but the lack of emotional depth stopped me from loving it See more Read all reviews
