Audience Member So, you find the one and then you can't have everything you yearn for. Only You is a powerful, captivating film about love and what it means to be a family, with authentic, intimate, raw and heartbreaking performances from Laia Costa and Josh O'Connor. The story is acutely observed and brims with charm from the Elvis Costello song to Elena's fragility about being older than Jake. While Josh O'Connor is magnetic as young man who is confident in love. I love how the film examines the random miracle and unfairness of life. One man gets his girlfriend pregnant and he cuts and runs. It's a shock. While our starcrossed lovers can't make a baby no matter how hard they try. Watch it, have a damned fine cry and thank your lucky stars if you have a lover who never stops gazing at you with love and admiration, because you are perfect just as you are. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/15/24 Full Review R.H.T Perfectly cast, beautifully acted. So emotional. Loved it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/13/23 Full Review anna p love the realistic and hearthwrenching take on the highs and heartbreaks in this relationship and josh o'connor produces another engaging portrayal which doesnt disappoint Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/14/23 Full Review isla s This is quite an insightful film, in terms of depicting an age gap relationship with a lady who struggles to conceive and the way the relationship is affected by that. The performances are good and it felt quite raw and open. Its not a film I'd want to watch again but its certainly worth seeing if it sounds of interest to you, yes. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member There's honesty, and basis on a type of relationship that repeats in real life. I did expect there'd be more of an emotional connection between the main characters, though. Overall, very good, but the lack of emotional depth stopped me from loving it Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member Top reviews from top critics, too critics really? Well at long last a female lead that doesn't own her own Hollywood mansion, isn't caked in makeup and isn't living in la la land. Yes, this is realistic, touching base on real issues insights and home truths on relationships and what babies are products of. The reason why? A typical hormonally charged night out with two lame characters, results in some rushed family planning. A foreign lead, whose accent gets in the way, shares a conversation whilst in bed about things feeling mechanical and weird, well yes the whole film did to be honest. Slow paced, dull and predictable. I cant think of anything else that stood out. As for the second act of the film, centred around injections and some unnecessary Irish music, this was all just a mess. Clear as day to me that these top critics were easily swayed. Odd to me how a lot of other films were slated. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Read all reviews
