Eddie Harrison film-authority.com …the action might be a little slow, and the score a little frenzied, but if you came to scoff at the Hitchcock-ian borrowings here, you’ll converted; the horrible Dr. Hichcock isn’t horrible at all, in fact, it’s quite a hypnotic little minor gem… Rated: 4/5 Jan 26, 2024 Full Review James Kendrick Q Network Film Desk never overtly gory, but it has an overall atmosphere or depravity that is hard to shake off. Horace Walpole and Ann Radcliffe would be proud. Sabrina F This is honestly a 2.5 star-film, but I have to give allowances for the fact that it could not really lean into one of its huge themes-a certain sexual proclivity of Dr. Hichcock's. I think this movie would have worked better if it was just a retelling of Bluebeard. Instead, the ending felt tacked on-like a different type of film altogether. And believe me, that reveal deserved an explanation. That said, it excels at the usual gothic trappings: setting, costumes, and a constant sense of dread. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/19/24 Full Review Audience Member L'ORRIBILE SEGRETO DEL DR. HICHCOCK / THE HORRIBLE DR. HICHCOCK is an excellent Gothic period horror piece that has an entertaining and respectable story. The well written screenplay, with satisfying performances by the entire cast and extremely well executed and authentic feeling Gothic sets, costumes, science/medical and technology references for the time period make this a truly great film. It is truly well worth a viewing!
