Rex Reed Observer It's one of the most powerful films about the Arab-Israeli conflict that has ever been attempted on the screen. Rated: 3/4 Oct 2, 2013 Full Review David Lewis San Francisco Chronicle "Out in the Dark" isn't a political film by any stretch, but the intrigue and prejudices of the Arab-Israeli conflict certainly fuel the romance and thrills of this entertaining, taut movie. Rated: 3/4 Sep 27, 2013 Full Review Stephen Holden New York Times Even though the plot defies credibility at several points, "Out in the Dark" is gripping, and Nimr's tearful exile from his family breaks your heart. Rated: 3.5/5 Sep 26, 2013 Full Review Richard Propes TheIndependentCritic.com It's an important film with universal themes that carry with them an unforgettable emotional resonance. Rated: 3.5/4.0 Sep 19, 2020 Full Review Alexander Ryll Gay Essential A Palestinian psychology student meets an Israeli lawyer and the two quickly fall in love with each other. While that alone could generate enough drama for fuel any gay film, Out in the Dark drops this love story into a sociopolitical firestorm. Sep 15, 2019 Full Review Nicholas Bell IONCINEMA.com An unflinching document about the violence and hardships LGBT people face in this hostile territory. Aug 29, 2019 Full Review Read all reviews

Joe P Gripping, suspenseful, heartwarming and maybe heartbreaking - you'll have to decide what it's ending means. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member This was one of the best gay-themed (or any themed) movies that I've seen in a while. The acting was first-rate by all involved - particularly by the two leads. And the reactions by both families involved seemed very realistic to me. Add the thriller aspect of the Israeli - Palestinian conflict and you have an excellent movie. Highly recommended for everyone - gay or straight. 8/10 Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Audience Member A masterpiece in every sense of the word. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Truly excellent film, great acting from all. The two main guys are really great and believable, the story is moving and is always interesting and theres a great ending. One of the more thought provoking gay films I have watched. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review Audience Member Wonderful movie. Which deals with the Israeli-Arab conflict from the point of view of two gay boys. Beyond gay history, analyze important aspects of our life Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Audience Member Out in the Dark is one of those films that everything is good at the beginning, but it turns to a dark sad ending. The performance by our leads were inspiring and very well done, these handsome guys did a great job. The story is sad because these lovers world turn from light to dark, still a memorable story, though. Time in the middle east was and is dangerous for the Lgbt community, especially in places like Saudi Arabia, Iran, Palestine, etc. Overall i was sad and angry on what was going on near the end, but the director showed us what happens to us in the Middle east, and how much appreciation i have living in North America!
