Audience Member Combining appropriated media with superimposition film stock effects, Outer Space is a unique viewing experience that some will find complex meaning in and others will think it's pretentious nonsense. However, I don't think it was made to be enjoyed or even liked. It takes a typical 80s horror film (a rip-off of Amityville) and turns it into something completely different. Wonderfully effective and evocative, while simultaneously acting as a comment on the materiality of cinema - the celluloid strip itself is employed as an actual storytelling tool, changing our idea of typical film language. This would be a moot point if the experiment was a failure. But it isn't - not by any stretch.
