Robert Abele Los Angeles Times Quite a few times in the plastic action splat called "Overdrive," characters say to their antagonists some variation of "You must think I'm stupid." Sorry to break it to you, "Overdrive," but all of you is stupid. Oct 5, 2017 Full Review Glenn Kenny New York Times The car chases are O.K., but not O.K. enough. Oct 5, 2017 Full Review Stephen Dalton The Hollywood Reporter [A] formulaic adolescent male button-pusher ... witless and brainless but not entirely joyless. Aug 14, 2017 Full Review Emilie Black Cinema Crazed Overdrive is light fare, but fun stuff with amazing cars and chases ... Rated: 4/5 Apr 17, 2020 Full Review Kat Hughes THN Whilst less complex in terms of the story, Overdrive ramps up the action, attempting stunts that would make even the Fast team baulk. Rated: 3/5 Aug 29, 2018 Full Review Ernesto Diezmartinez Cine Vértigo ... this derivative film about racing cars is, at least, innocuously entertaining. Test T I watched this on Blu-ray recently. I like cars, and there are a few nice ones featured in this film. There's also a heist with lots of driving action. So far so good then, but the cast are lesser known actors, there's some akward French accent's to tolerate and the critics don't like it. Getting back to what's good, it uses really pretty locations filmed on really nice days, so the film looks really good on screen. Sadly, that's it. The story is mostly superficial nonsense designed to connect the driving scenes. The acting is pretty basic too, with non of the actors convincing me of anything approaching realism. However, the driving scenes are really exciting, and there were a few cleverly executed stunts which I can't recall seeing elsewhere. (I particularly enjoyed the one where the bridge collapses near the end.) To summarise, I enjoyed watching this film, and I would recommend it, but if you take it too seriously, just like the critics, you will be disappointed. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 08/31/24 Full Review Lanfranco C Wonderful Cars in a not too bad action movie. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 06/08/24 Full Review Audience Member A very entertaining and action-packed movie. Scott Eastwood does an excellent job. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member Terrible movie. Whoever wrote the story line...yikes. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member If (old school) TBS made a Fast and Furious movie this might be it. Flimsy characters with little chemistry were only ruined by a car movie without chase scenes. I'm not sure which highlight was more impressive, Scott Eastwood baseball sliding under a truck without a vehicle or a car being launched like a firework after colliding with a bus. This movie tries to answer the question, "what if we take B-actors, give them a b-writer and mix a little Italian job with fast and furious?" The result is at the end you're left wondering what the heck happened and not in the "Inception" brain hurting sort of way. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member Amazing cast in a breathtaking scenery and a collection of old vintage cars peppered with modern German muscle. What else do you want… I'd say even as good as Fast and furious but different. Marseille looks inviting and because of this movie I want to go there.
