arvind s Senna Hegde's National Award winning film, Thinkalazhcha Nishchayam was a fun ride with unexpected turn of events and subtle humor. His follow-up film, 1744 White Alto was set in the same region (Kanhangad) but I haven't heard much about it after its release. But in his latest, Senna Hegde moves to Palakkad to narrate the story of Rameshan, a teacher, whose wife elopes with her lover on their wedding night. Hegde's Malayalam movies have been offbeat to some extent. Padmini takes a more tried and tested path in its storytelling. It didnt strike me that I was watching a Senna Hedge film till the end credits reminded me. There is that feeling of formulaic/template approach but there are moments of ingenuity that can be attributed to Hegde. Sajin Cherukayil's character is to be credited for this. He owns a mattress company, he is very possesive and his company also sponsors the film. Vincy Aloshious is another character who stands out. Kunchacko Boban , who plays the lead aka Padmini doesnt have much to do here but it is nice to see him do light-hearted roles. Aparna Balamurali, Madonna Sebastian, Althaf Salim, Gokulan M S co-star. Padmini has its moments but they are strung together rather weakly. But there are some moments of brilliance that make it a one time watch.
