It's as remarkable a depiction of how grief can subsume us and bend reality to its needs as you'll ever see, directed by a talent with a bright future behind the camera. Go to Full Review

The film, a strong directorial debut from Tamblyn, creates a waking nightmare of seemingly unresolvable pain and anguish." Go to Full Review

Tamblyn may very well have encouraged McTeer to spin into a ludicrous lioness, but her performance doesn't play well opposite Shawkat's. Go to Full Review

If that sounds a bit florid, then you've got the idea. Paint It Black is purple and overcooked, swelling to burst with rococo emotion. It doesn't always hold together but it's too outstanding to be ignored. Go to Full Review

05/21/2018 Artistic cinematography without any purpose. Tries too hard to be edgy. Disappointing. See more ben c 03/23/2018 A walk through darkness with Shawkat and I would walk with her anywhere. See more 02/13/2018 Sad, atmospheric, beautiful film about love and loss. See more 02/03/2018 I really enjoyed this book when I read it years ago and hoped that a great adaptation would be made. I was disappointed after watching it. They chose the wrong lead for Josie. Just because an actress is a good actress doesn't mean she's the right actress. Casting aside, the movie itself was well directed and the acting itself was pretty good. I would recommend watching it, but don't expect it to be something you will revisit.
