Critics Consensus

Paranormal Activity 2 doesn't cover any new ground, but its premise is still scary -- and in some respects, it's a better film than the original.

Ty Burr Boston Globe Rated: 2/4 Nov 24, 2011 Full Review Nick Schager Lessons of Darkness The good ol' child-in-peril gimmick is the only new thing offered by Tod Williams' follow-up to Oren Peli's 2007 hit. Rated: C Apr 17, 2011 Full Review J. R. Jones Chicago Reader Like Oren Peli, who created the first film, director Tod Williams keeps the dialogue So-Cal dumb and colorless, which must be part of the scare plan but makes both these movies hard to sit through. Jan 4, 2011 Full Review Katelyn Nelson Daily Grindhouse Where the first Paranormal Activity sought to present hours of no movement by speeding up the clock, the sequel pressures you to examine every corner of a room for yourself. Aug 4, 2024 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review Visually, the experience is boring and repetitious. Oriana H hi sparkles i only watched the first like 5 minutes of this film so i cannot recommend it but i will watch it soon and make an honest review. I would like to think that this is as good as the marked ones but i cannot come to that conclusion as i did not watch it all i remember was seeing a horse and that symbolises Jesse who is the best character. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/18/25 Full Review Matilda S So, bloggers, I'm going to be so real with you; I didn't watch it at all. In fact, and I'm going to hold your hand whilst I say this, it was so boring I couldn't even stay awake for it. Do better next time guys, I'm in disappointed and you don't want to make me disappointed. The only saving grace was that Jesse featured in all his horse like glory but even that couldn't save this atrocious movie. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/18/25 Full Review Christopher V I will keep this short and sweet. Overlooking the franchise this always comes in the middle of lower of many list. This one really amped up for me. There are so many quality jump scares and intense moments. It works the connection between the 1st and 2 film. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/16/25 Full Review Aidan B Never really proves its necessity, but is enjoyable enough nonetheless, "Paranormal Activity 2" brings some new scares to the table, but is overall more of the same. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 11/22/24 Full Review Audience Member Paranormal Activity 2 is very similar to the first for me the characters are an improvement over the first this is a prequel to the first which I like I just want them to show Katie's past bc that's the most interesting story that hasn't been explained yet this one actually got me like cabinets which one was one of them the ending is kinda silly but that don't bother me there is still no score which hurts these two movies with the score but the ending was good its interesting of what it sets up hopefully it doesn't go really bad where its unwatchable but overall I prefer this to the first 77% Rated 3 out of 5 stars 11/19/24 Full Review Audience Member They playing Ouija board Rated 3 out of 5 stars 10/25/24 Full Review Read all reviews
