Pathu Thala - 7/10. I guess we're starting to see the Vikram effect in tamil cinema. We have a big shoot out in the end (really well done btw), and we have a lead character whose like a shadow for the first half, then emerges more in the second (again, kudos to Simbu for allowing the director to direct the film according to the story). I haven't seen the original, but I would say Pathu Thala is just decent overall. The movie has some shining moments here and there, with some twists and turns. I feel like movie really should have focused more on Gautham Karthik's character having to try and hide his identity. For some reason, it felt like he was able to hide his identity really easily for the most part (albeit outside of few moments). Good music, good moments here and there, but I feel could've been a little stronger in the first half. Decent overall!

Pathu Thala is yet another entry in Kollywood cinema that has a too familiarized story with a weak narrative which is filled with cliches, predictable elements and poorly developed characters. Even A.R. Rahman's background score couldn't elevate this film to the next level and his soundtrack doesn't contain any memorable song either.
