Jay Weissberg Variety There's talent here, but Villanueva, like a young artist still influenced by his elders, needs to find his own style or he'll become a skilled yet unexciting copyist. Feb 5, 2013 Full Review Alison Willmore AV Club Since the movie is one long build-up to a reveal, it offers a lot of time to learn to hate Brondo and everything she represents. Rated: C+ Apr 19, 2012 Full Review Christian Toto Big Hollywood The film's ending is a letdown, but it's a blast to root for such a brassy, rhymes with "itch" heroine. Rated: 3/4 Sep 1, 2012 Full Review Paul Chambers Movie Chambers There are several reasons to stay with "Penumbra" until the bloody end. Cristina Brondo makes this bitch-on-wheels likeable. She is a remarkable actress. And, the directors (Garcia Bogliano brothers) know how to build suspense. C'est bizarre! Rated: B Aug 29, 2012 Full Review Brent Simon Shockya.com Argentinean import Penumbra is a slick, teasing, well constructed genre offering that rather skillfully exploits audience antipathy toward its bitch-on-wheels protagonist. Jerod S The Penumbra story was horrible but not much of a horror. Young lady trying to rent out her apartment gets sucked into a deadly ritual that comes with the solar eclipse. Cue beheading and suicide and then 3 minutes of her running away. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 09/01/23 Full Review Audience Member Le build-up mystérieux ne mène à rien de bien intéressant Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Despite a very well directed, acted (the lead actress carries rather long and exhausting conversations as if nothing) film, there's a missing storyline that fully explains all of the walking around, abstract talking and dialogue, and so since you already get very fast paced verbal action (Some of which I couldn't comprehend at times), you are left over saturated when it comes to the rather anti climactic climax, and are left with a resolution that in spite of the "unlikeable" character, is rather convenient to have. I don't think there was much in for the scares except for the unexpected event during the climax, so the movie also comes off as a flat wannabe thriller that leaves one wanting more. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Audience Member She's Not as Crazy as They Say She Is--A very suspenseful little movie, that might not go exactly the way you expect it to go!! Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Workable situational horror with what turns out to be a macabre premise. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member And my foreign movie festival ends on a low note. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/21/23 Full Review Read all reviews
