A popular stage magician, David Katz (Peter Scolari), is charged with murdering his assistant, Kate, onstage in front of a live audience after a trick goes horribly wrong. It seems that Kate and the married David were having an affair and that the victim was pregnant at the time, which doesn't bode well for the accused. Ace attorney Perry Mason (Raymond Burr), who was also in the audience, opts to defend David and clear his name despite the incriminating evidence.
