      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Allison Williams and company do their best, but no amount of clapping or pixie dust can keep Peter Pan Live! afloat.

Audience Member Binarism, a word which here means has to be a man or woman. For Peter Pan, this means The coloring looks like a Barbie doll & the shirt is WAY too low cut, the V emphasizes Alison Willams' breasts, particularly when she's in motion, the fish netting gives it a hint of sexuality. For Tiger Lily, it's even worse! I'm nonbinary, and I don't dress in party streamers, or like a stripper Being that Alanna Saunders is Cherokee, this is intersectional racism, or racism and sexism combined! The choreography for "True Blood Brothers" emphasizes the cut in the stripper outfit that goes up to her private parts! Sondra Lee, the original Tiger Lily, wore pants and a long-sleeved shirt, white private grants you some level of protection when being gender non-conforming. This was devastating to see because on top of that people on Twitter were not shy about expressing the opinion that a woman shouldn't be allowed to play Peter Pan, which is sexist and lends Itself well to transphobia, and IS binarism itself! and NBC did nothing to stop this. I guess you could say this was the first time I was called a woman and had a gender identity crisis! If a woman can't be Peter Pan, a boy then what am I? To me "Peter Pan" is a show that challenges gender, and Peter Pan Live reinforces gender, that's why it's immoral! Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Not the greatest production. The acting all around was pretty bad, especially Christopher Walken's. Allison Williams tries hard, but it just comes off as silly. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review Audience Member I'm pretty sure Christopher Walken showed up to set the day before they shot this. He stumbles through what lines and choreography he does remember, and awkwardly forgets large sections from time to time. What could have been a charming family film is just a hot mess. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member Certainly better than the sound of music remake but it still had some problems. It's a decent take on the classic story with a good cast and good songs to boot, but it still suffers some of the same runtime and consistency problems. It's starts out really strong and then after we met Peter Pan is when this remake gets kind of boring. It's not a must see but it certainly wasn't terrible and it had some really good moments. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Audience Member Plenty of cheese and plenty of fun. Very enjoyable film with great dancing and characters. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Audience Member I would love to give a frickin middle finger to the bozo that came up with this (bleep). So whoever you are, go (bleep) yourself. Hank Stuever Washington Post The nostalgia doesn't quite convey, no matter how hard one claps for a computer-generated, Lunesta butterfly-like Tinker Bell. Old musicals tend to run long and come across as strangely convoluted. Dec 5, 2014 Full Review Mark Kennedy Associated Press The character of Peter Pan will clearly survive this live event, but it remains to be seen if NBC's lacklustre Peter Pan Live! killed off the network's brave experiment in live theatre. Dec 5, 2014 Full Review Gail Pennington St. Louis Post-Dispatch Much of Peter Pan Live! was lovely and entertaining, and tearing it apart seems mean-spirited, because having a live (live!) musical on television in 2014 is such a remarkable thing. Dec 5, 2014 Full Review Marisa Carpico The Pop Break I suppose Meron and Zadan can't really be blamed for wanting to make a legitimately good show, but in succeeding, they've also taken all the life out of the experience. Rated: 5/10 Dec 25, 2018 Full Review Joyce Slaton Common Sense Media With eye-popping sets, gorgeous songs, and zesty acting, Peter Pan Live! is a worthy version of a well-worn story. Rated: 3/5 Dec 8, 2014 Full Review Robert Trussell Kansas City Star The show seemed like a slowly deflating balloon. Dec 5, 2014 Full Review Read all reviews
