05/27/2018 Technically I suppose this is a thriller but it's much more "Elevator to the Gallows' than 'Strangers on a Train', with an emphasis on style and mood rather than plot. It's beautifully shot and in Lucyna Winnicka it has an actress who, like Moreau, holds the viewer's attention without actually having to say or do very much. See more 06/30/2015 Polish film is not a regular staple on my selection, which is a great remiss of me and surely will change after this one, from one of the leading maestros of Polish cinema school, it is my first encounter with Kawalerowicz, NIGHT TRAIN ostensibly is a Hitchcock-esque mystery with a beguiling noir sheen for the first glance, yet soon viewers will notice there is no McGuffin employed in the story except a promise that a murderer is at large, Kawalerowicz doesn't sink to atmospheric suspense to keep audience hooked in its narrative, and steers us through an overnight journey on a sleeping train where strangers shelter hidden agenda within a confined space. keep reading my review on my blog: http://wp.me/p1eXom-1Wz See more 07/24/2012 Great Polish thriller, one of the greatest cinematographic achievements in the post-war Poland. Kawalerowicz uses tight shots and makes the most of crowded hallways to add to the claustrophobic feeling of this film.
