Derrick Pittman But Why Tho? A Geek Community Pokemon: Mewtwo Strikes Back – Evolution is a fun time and if you’ve seen the first movie hits you in the nostalgic feels. It’s great seeing the original trio of trainers together and all of their beloved Pokemon. Rated: 7/10 Apr 11, 2023 Full Review Read all reviews

Michael P This has been on my list for years and I've always put it off for one reason or another. I love the original. Yes, it has flaws and watching it when I was older you can tell it's not exactly high art like my childhood self once thought but this version just felt like lacked, well, heart. It felt stale and a remake for a remakes sake, swapping the older 2D animation with 3D CGI style animation and it just felt lifeless. It was pretty much a shot for shot remake and I was hoping for something more, a better script, tighter story because those base elements they show seem like they're bursting at the seem with potential but it's gone wasting. Yes, the Pikachu Ash moment still had me in tears like it always does but that's pretty much the extent of it. Overall, I'm just left lacking and wishing I had just rewatched the original. At least now I know Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 05/14/25 Full Review matthias s "Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution" seems to have taken the Pokémon world into a controversial vortex of love and disappointment. While the revamped animation splashes vibrant life into the Pokémon universe, with characters looking sleek and vibrant, this remake is like an awkward remix at a party – you're excited at first, but then the beat just doesn't sync. The newly altered theme song might leave fans cringing in nostalgia agony, wishing for the original's magic. Mewtwo's sinister presence is a highlight, thanks to a chillingly well-voiced performance. But the charm of the original is sorely missed, as this remake feels unnecessary, like repackaging a classic snack in an unappealing new wrapper. The fight sequences disappoint with illogical choices – Razor Leaf against Bulbasaur? C'mon, that's Pokémon 101! Yet, despite its missteps, the emotional punch of the ending manages to hit home, reminding fans why they fell in love with the original story.
