In the 19th century, a mysterious plague turns the English countryside into a war zone. No one is safe as the dead come back to life to terrorize the land. Fate leads Elizabeth Bennet (Lily James), a master of martial arts and weaponry, to join forces with Mr. Darcy (Sam Riley), a handsome but arrogant gentleman. Elizabeth can't stand Darcy, but respects his skills as a zombie killer. Casting aside their personal differences, they unite on the blood-soaked battlefield to save their country.

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is one of the most fun, wildly inventive genre mash-ups ever committed to film. Let’s address the most common criticisms Criticism #1 — "The tone is inconsistent." Sure, if your expectation is a somber period piece or a gritty zombie epic, this isn’t for you. But that criticism is precisely why this movie works: it confidently blends Regency romance with martial-arts mayhem and undead chaos in a way that should feel jarringly delightful. What some diehard critics call "inconsistent," fans call genre fusion brilliance — a cheeky wink instead of a dour drag. The film isn’t muddled; it’s playfully eclectic. Criticism #2 — "The action is muddy and the zombies aren’t scary." This misses the point entirely. This isn’t 28 Days Later or Zombieland — it’s a zombie romantic comedy, the undead are plot catalysts, not jump-scare fodder. The martial training, period costumes, and swashbuckling are delivered in a way that’s absolutely intentional, not a flaw.

The book is good fun, not sure why ita was needed to change it even more. It takes itself too seriously, it is jane Austen with zombies, how can you not make a comedy out of this?
