Roger Ebert Chicago Sun-Times Prime Cut is very different from the usual gangster movie; it's put together almost like a comic strip, with all of the good and bad things that implies, and the Marvin character has more in common with superheroes than with mobsters. Rated: 3/4 Oct 23, 2004 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review Prime Cut is an essential crime picture that finds new relevance in a period that, not so long ago, may have seemed dated and backward, but today feels maddeningly, disappointingly true. Rated: 4/4 Mar 11, 2022 Full Review Nicholas Bell IONCINEMA.com Fans of Marvin, Hackman and Spacek should delight, as Prime Cut is weird, wicked, and a lot of fun. Rated: 3.5/5 Oct 21, 2020 Full Review Mike Massie Gone With The Twins Hackman is in top form, providing a nuanced, almost charming villain, who could be a fun person to befriend, were it not for his flesh farm and his tendencies toward homicide. Rated: 7/10 Aug 30, 2020 Full Review Robert Sullivan Los Angeles Free Press A much greater fault is the way the film constantly pulls its punches; half of the film's climaxes don't feel quite right because they're not sufficiently climactic. Jan 7, 2020 Full Review Fernando F. Croce CinePassion Enchantingly perverse fairy-tale Sep 25, 2009 Full Review Read all reviews

Jim M I would not have given this movie 4 stars when I saw it during its original theatrical run because I thought it was overdone. As an 18 year-old kid, the grotesque and institutionalized brutality of the Prime Cut fantasy world didn’t seem possible in the world of 1972-73. I guess all of those TV cop shows of that era helped create my false impression of the world we lived in. In 2025, we have Epstein, Musk, Trump, and too many other examples of how the worst kind of criminals can succeed for years and years. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/27/25 Full Review Zackary T When is the last time that you saw a Gene Hackman film where he didn't steal the entire movie everytime he's on screen ? The answer is never other than this film. Not only does Lee Marvin hold his own he steals the show. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/25/24 Full Review Shioka O A weird crime film. More like a nasty satire comedy. Opening with meat packing/sausage factory footages and Gene Hackman plays villain called "Mary Ann". Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 10/05/22 Full Review Audience Member Prime Cut is a mean nasty crime/mob thriller that they rarely make anymore. Lee Marvin at his coolest and Gene Hackman at his slimiest. Also surprisingly funny. Great shootout at a farmhouse at the end. They just don't make ‘em like the 70s anymore. Great time for film. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Ed M I wanted to love this movie. Gene Hackman and Lee Marvin. But it was just okay. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 08/16/20 Full Review delysid d a very cool movie that reminded me of point blank. lee marvin is a badass who has been forgotten by modern audiences but he was great Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/03/18 Full Review Read all reviews
