Thelma Adams AARP Movies for Grownups There's something incredibly, wistfully sad about this sympathetic documentary charting the rise and fall of New Zealand's third female Prime Minister, Dame Jacinda Ardern. Rated: 4/5 Jun 13, 2025 Full Review Alissa Wilkinson New York Times “Prime Minister” reminds us, the role that the internet and sharply ideological news sources play in our lives shifted dramatically in just the years Ardern was in office. Jun 13, 2025 Full Review Ty Burr Washington Post The qualities that endeared Ardern to the world and — for her first term, at least — to her country were a directness, intelligence, drive and unglamorous charm that “Prime Minister” convincingly presents as entirely unmanufactured. Rated: 3/4 Jun 13, 2025 Full Review Lisa Trifone Third Coast Review Like Ardern herself, the film is clearly intent on shining a light on the good, on what's possible when leaders lead from kindness and potential not fear and scarcity... Rated: 3.5/4 Jun 18, 2025 Full Review Joseph Neff Spectrum Culture Prime Minister is ultimately nearer to memoir, featuring Ardern’s self-questioning and ambivalence, than it is to a simple portrait. Jun 17, 2025 Full Review Mike McGranaghan Aisle Seat Briskly paced and consistently inspiring, the film offers a trenchant examination of a politician trying to do her best in an era when the world is deeply divided.
