Critics Consensus

A delightfully postmodern fairy tale, The Princess Bride is a deft, intelligent mix of swashbuckling, romance, and comedy that takes an age-old damsel-in-distress story and makes it fresh.

Chris B I personally this is the greatest movie ever made. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/15/24 Full Review St E Possibly one of the most fun movies I have ever watched, right next to Pirates of the Carabiner. Dialogue is unforgettable, and so so quotable. Comedy is not forced, nor does it draws attention to itself. It doesn't oppress scenes it stands on the side, doing it's own thing. Plot is dreadfully simple, very cliche and and light as it gets. It is an easy watch. You won't be a different person after watching it, but you'll have fun. And you will enjoy it. And scenes will give you a lasting good filling about them. This movie is build different. You'd either love it or hate it. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 12/12/24 Full Review Audience Member Possibly the most contemporary fairy tale that has already become a classic. Rob Reiner brings William Goldman’s timeless story to life on the big screen, capturing and enhancing all its magic. Generations of parents who grew up watching this film have since shared it with their children, much like past generations shared the Grimms’ Fairy Tales, adding it to the ever-expanding list of society’s shared stories. One of its biggest strengths is the fantastic cast, with some of the best-cast characters ever, particularly André René Roussimoff as Fezzik who makes the character truly appear as a real giant. The relationship between the Cary Elwes and Robin Wright characters, Westley and Buttercup, is the emotional center of the film and has the power to win over even the biggest skeptics of romance. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/04/24 Full Review samuel k a True Classic a 5 stars as you wish Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/03/24 Full Review Brady S Finally a movie with worse props than my high school play. It’s great to see Cary Elwes as a fantasy hero defying a twisted prince again. Watch as buttercup is saved by Columbo who faithfully narrates to Fred savage.
