In the early 20th century, two Italian couples immigrate to Brazil seeking better lives. The romantic Teresa (Patrícia Pillar) is married to the practical Angelo (Alexandre Paternost), while Massimo (Bruno Campos), a refined man, is bound by matrimony to the plain Pierina (Gloria Pires). Obviously mismatched with their respective spouses, Teresa and Massimo fall easily in love. The new lovers must suffer the disapproval of their conservative community and fight for survival in this new world.

Fernando Gonzalez Miami Herald The result is neither soap opera -- there is more excitement. passion. urgency in soap commercials -- nor probing socio-political commentary. Rated: 1.5/4 Aug 18, 2021 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member Oscar-nominated film in 1996. Based on the novel by José Clemente Pozenato. The story is very interesting. Quatrilho is the name of a game where players change partners during the game, and that's what happens in the movie, the two couples change partners, but for love (it's not a porno movie okay?).. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member Filme muito bom. Nada de boring, boring, boring. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Boring, boring, boring. The responsible for the rebirth of brazilian movie industry is beautifully shot but it is another annoying, preposterous Fábio Barreto work. The acting is poor, the screenplay is poor, the characters are poor... Anyway, if you have the opportunity watch and try to understand why "O Quatrilho" received critical acclaim. I couldn`t. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/09/23 Full Review Audience Member An important landmark in the history of South American cinema, this was the second film of the Brazil's "retomada", right after "Carlota Joaquina". A decent love story and an accurate portrayal of life in the Italian communities of Rio Grande do Sul a century ago. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Read all reviews
