Glenn Kenny New York Times Even at a terse 76 minutes, "Queen of Diamonds" is not an easy film. But it's an essential one. Apr 25, 2019 Full Review Dave Giannini InSession Film The visuals are impressive, but not in a shocking, bombastic way. Queen of Diamonds is pure hypnosis on film. Feb 23, 2024 Full Review Erika Balsom Cinema Scope Queen of Diamonds-refreshingly, vitally, radically-is part of another women's cinema, one that knows that any feminism worthy of the name cannot be grounded in an ideology of individual achievement... Feb 7, 2020 Full Review Lee Jutton Film Inquiry In the years that have passed since its initial release, Menkes' perfectly crafted images and soundscapes have lost none of their bleak poetry. May 8, 2019 Full Review Sarah Resnick 4Columns In Queen of Diamonds, Menkes offers a trance-inducing tour of an overdeveloped city-a stand-in for our overdeveloped country-by fixing her camera precisely on the castoffs of conspicuous consumption. Apr 26, 2019 Full Review Emanuel Levy EmanuelLevy.Com In this interesting, feminist indie from Nina Menkes, we get a complex portrait of a woman who may be both a victim and onlooker. Audience Member This is a movie that takes its time, more about ennui mood and finding art in the ordinary and tacky glitz than plot. There's a long scenes lingering on a building that looks run-down, for instance. The longer the camera lingers, the more we can see it as a kind of Mondrian art. Many such scenes like this. If it's action you're looking for, this ain't it. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
