The film genuinely has something tragic in it, and Dyrholm is outstanding. Go to Full Review

The tricky brilliance of "Queen of Hearts" is in how el-Toukhy uses a well-worn narrative - the unsuspecting, hidden passion with the appearance of erotic freedom - to unveil what in reality is a poisonous tale of abuse. Go to Full Review

This gripping erotic drama, directed by May el-Toukhy with wonderful performances from all, is sometimes in danger of slipping over into posh soap, or soft-core porn, territory Go to Full Review

Anonymous A Oct 18 Great acting but horrid storyline. The ending was awful. Very disturbing premise with no consequences for lead character. Wish I'd never watched it. See more Alain E @AlainE May 5 At times hard to watch, this is a story about an off bounds sexual relationship where the evil doer is a woman. Very interesting that the director is female. There are some sex scenes due to the theme of the movie, but there is nothing titillating. The main lesson is that many people have serious character flaws which can have devastating effects on persons they come in contact with. Even then, the characters are described realistically. The protagonist is a school counselor who cannot control herself to stay away from her own stepson, but on the other hand she is able to give good advice to a female student who lives in an abusive environment. Strong acting and good cinematography. See more positive m 11/25/2024 Honesty Love Prudence Self-regulation See more Esther R 05/15/2024 Enthralling. Realistic portrayal which was enjoyably hard to watch. Brilliantly acted. See more Sebastian L 04/18/2024 A well-crafted but coldhearted story about control and the illusion of empathy. Dyrholm owns the show, but Lindh is not far off. The lack of a relatable protagonist will leave you feeling a bit too empty afterwards. See more Cristina B 03/08/2024 There was another review that said this film was prurient and I agree that the psycho-sexual abuse and incest is not better just because it is done to a teenage boy instead of a teenage girl. That said, I can turn on pretty much any other film to see teenage girls being sexually exploited in an almost identical lascivious and moralising fashion. I appreciate the attempt here to do something fairly rare: to positively portray sexual assertiveness in a woman who is not considered conventionally attractive thanks to age. This is an experimental thing in film. Even then, it has a moralistic ending....which makes you wonder if the female director felt she had to play it safe and align with society's values to make the film acceptable.
