Kevin Maher Times (UK) It's piercing, magnificently judged film-making. Rated: 5/5 Nov 6, 2020 Full Review Peter Bradshaw Guardian The film genuinely has something tragic in it, and Dyrholm is outstanding. Rated: 4/5 Nov 3, 2020 Full Review Robert Abele Los Angeles Times The tricky brilliance of "Queen of Hearts" is in how el-Toukhy uses a well-worn narrative - the unsuspecting, hidden passion with the appearance of erotic freedom - to unveil what in reality is a poisonous tale of abuse. Nov 1, 2019 Full Review Markie Robson-Scott The Arts Desk This gripping erotic drama, directed by May el-Toukhy with wonderful performances from all, is sometimes in danger of slipping over into posh soap, or soft-core porn, territory Rated: 4/5 Nov 26, 2020 Full Review Emma Simmonds The List Has the courage to both charm and chill us as it depicts a midlife crisis. Rated: 5/5 Nov 4, 2020 Full Review Matthew St. Clair Cinema Sentries Trine Dyrholm's dynamic performance is what makes the picture come together. Sep 23, 2020 Full Review Read all reviews

Esther R Enthralling. Realistic portrayal which was enjoyably hard to watch. Brilliantly acted. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/15/24 Full Review Sebastian L A well-crafted but coldhearted story about control and the illusion of empathy. Dyrholm owns the show, but Lindh is not far off. The lack of a relatable protagonist will leave you feeling a bit too empty afterwards. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/18/24 Full Review Cristina B There was another review that said this film was prurient and I agree that the psycho-sexual abuse and incest is not better just because it is done to a teenage boy instead of a teenage girl. That said, I can turn on pretty much any other film to see teenage girls being sexually exploited in an almost identical lascivious and moralising fashion. I appreciate the attempt here to do something fairly rare: to positively portray sexual assertiveness in a woman who is not considered conventionally attractive thanks to age. This is an experimental thing in film. Even then, it has a moralistic ending....which makes you wonder if the female director felt she had to play it safe and align with society's values to make the film acceptable. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/02/24 Full Review Kat L Great movie structure, beautiful music and no Botox! Recommend. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/24/22 Full Review witold r What can a legal professional and specialist in sexual harassment cases, with a high professional status, a well-established and influential social position and a stable family life with a high level of wealth, do, so that after a temporary submission to lust with the hallmarks of a crime against a teenage stepson, do not experience exposure and ruin in many fields? A directing, writing and performer of the main female role plus a well-thought-out and refined image in every millimeter of film. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member A disarmingly disturbing portrait of a woman who is not a victim, is not a sumisse slave or an adventurous lover, a woman who is so much more than what we've seen before, a woman who makes bad choices and is capable to hurt the others in order to save herself.
