Alissa Simon Variety With its terrifyingly topical look into the complicated mind of an autocratic leader, tour de force performances by the two leads, striking cinematography and notable period production design, this is a gripping cinematic experience. Sep 9, 2024 Full Review Jason Blake Limelight A satisfyingly complex film about the downfall of Norway’s infamous... head of state, Vidkun Quisling. Rated: 4/5 Jul 25, 2025 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review A timely historical drama that examines the complex, demented psychology of authoritarians Rated: 3.5/4 Apr 7, 2025 Full Review Alan Ng Film Threat While Peder Olsen’s actions may provoke discomfort—given Quisling’s undeniable crimes—the story invites us to reflect on whether even the most despicable among us are capable of redemption. Rated: 8.5/10 Jan 7, 2025 Full Review Giovanni Lago Next Best Picture The film could have been a powerful examination of how faith can waiver and how authoritarianism blinds those desperate for a morsel of influence. Instead, audiences have merely a solid biopic that never excels at the one thing it strives to achieve. Rated: 5/10 Sep 16, 2024 Full Review Abe Friedtanzer The Film Experience A standard drama that offers an unexpectedly layered and insightful look into a figure who history most definitely does not remember well. Rated: B Sep 10, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews

Alec B The problem with examining Vidkun Quisling at the end of his life is that your inherently at a dramatic disadvantage because his refusal to admit to any wrongdoing means that you're stuck with a central character who cannot change despite a huge amount of evidence. I think the movie mostly avoids this problem by finding other characters who come to see the crimes of his regime. Quisling is mostly based on diaries kept by Peder Olsen, the prison chaplain specially assigned to Vidkun Quisling after he was arrested and eventually executed for his role as the leader of a coup that installed a pro-Hitler government in Norway. An unbelievable performance by Norwegian actor Gard Bjørnstjerne Eidsvold, his first in a leading role, with a personal twist: His father had been arrested and badly tortured under Quisling. He was liberated days after the death of Hitler and the fall of the Quisling government. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/13/24 Full Review Read all reviews
