V.A. Musetto New York Post Who knows better about prison life than someone who has experienced it firsthand? Rated: 3/4 Jun 17, 2011 Full Review Stephen Holden New York Times "R" is not about justice or redemption. You couldn't even call it a protest film about prison conditions, but it is very well made and persuasively acted. Rated: 3.5/5 Jun 16, 2011 Full Review Karsten Kastelan Hollywood Reporter Directors-screenwriters Lindholm and Noer are careful not to let the audience know more than their protagonist does, keeping them in the nerve-wrecking state of uncertainty and fear. Jun 15, 2011 Full Review Ard Vijn ScreenAnarchy Even though its gloomy setting and crushingly bleak authenticity makes "R" a film that is at times hard to watch, it still is one of the best films I've seen this year. Jan 14, 2020 Full Review Mattie Lucas From the Front Row It's all very familiar territory, albeit well done and powerfully acted, and even contains moments of disarming beauty. Rated: 3/4 Aug 5, 2019 Full Review Brent Simon Shockya.com The story charts an expected path, but the acting is quite solid and the movie's ethnic divisions are solidly elucidated without ever becoming overbearing or pretentious. Audience Member Brutal and brilliant - I don't normally watch films like these, but it is absolutely a gripping story about prison and prisoners that is not the least bit glorified but more about survival and honour. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Danish prison thriller about a young man thrown in with the most violent criminals found in Denmark. Somewhat similiar to typical American movies of this genre but with an European twist. Daring and bold look at the life behind bars with some nice twists thrown in. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Audience Member A raw and violent look at the pecking order of prison life and how to survive it. Well acted and believable. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Not as good as the hype says. Well performed, and indeed very gritty. But the alliances within the gangs, doesn't make sense, and you end up not understanding the motivations from the inmates. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Audience Member Surprisingly good Danish prison movie. Akin to Un prophete in many ways but with its very own style and touch. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member nice movie for the action lover Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review Read all reviews
