Harris Dang easternKicks.com Re:Born is a more than sufficient entry to the action genre with Tak Sakaguchi and Yuji Shimomura doing what they do best: kicking ass and taking names, hundreds upon hundreds of them, with style. Rated: 3.5/5 Oct 31, 2018 Full Review J.R. Southall Starburst Altogether anybody who enjoys a bit of screen martial arts won't be disappointed by a film that's probably destined to become something of a minor classic of the genre. Late R The Japanese are prone to making live-action films that are a bit cheesy (they often feel like there's some or a lot of manga/anime influence going on) and ‘Re:Born' isn't much different, although if you're familiar with some of the stuff that comes out of the country, this is positively tame and absolutely watchable. Nevertheless, there is still that air of corniness that pervades everything with the story, dialogue and characters coming across as cliché, a bit silly, and more than unrealistic. However, this is an action film and a lot of that can be forgiven if the fight scenes are good. It doesn't start out well, but come the half way point, things kick into high gear and people start dropping like flies. From there on out, it's non-stop action with enough going on to possibly satisfy those who came for exactly that, although some of it is still quite silly and the dreaded shaky-cam + quick cuts combo does put somewhat of a damper on a lot of it. I can't honestly say the fight scenes are top notch, but I can say that the second half of the film is the only thing worth watching and it might win you over. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 08/17/20 Full Review Audience Member this was fantastic; i saw other reviewers reference Ninja Assassin & The Raid for this film, which are both favorites of mine, & they were spot on. i loved everything about this movie. if you're fans of the same type of genre, then you'll love this one too. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/20/23 Full Review Audience Member Good film showcasing close range combat with the use various weapons. Choregraphy of the fight scenes was clean, sharp, and on-point.
