"Ride" is a film overstuffed with themes, ideas, and characters, but it works because it's made with the kind of urgency that comes from a filmmaker who has to tell this story and get it out on celluloid right now, or they'll bust. Go to Full Review

Allyn’s ambitious, tough drama serves up uncompromising Texas grit in every scene, and as actor, co-writer and director, he keeps us riveted on all fronts for nearly two hours. Go to Full Review

Ride isn’t a perfect film, but its imperfections are well suited to its gruff and gritty world. Go to Full Review

It’s rarely stable, an imbalanced exercise in control, yet often manages to be thrilling. Sure, most of its thrills result in big falls that leave you wishing it could have held on just a little longer. Go to Full Review

There’s no debating the film’s noble aims for authenticity, which keeps us grounded in the moment. Go to Full Review

April 06/17/2024 Gritty, authentic, & suspensefull. Great acting. See more Anon A Nov 11 Hated it. What a BOMB! What I guess was supposed to be music that invoked a mood and showcased artistry was instead an insufferable hour and 54 minutes of movie soundtrack that I wish I had back. It in no way enhanced the experience for me—and the experience otherwise definitely needed enhancing. What was the story here? You tell me. (Please! Somebody tell me!) Anemic plot lines made this movie pretty unbearable—unless you like the kind of story where things that should be explained early on only get revealed in dribs and drabs throughout the movie, right up to the end. Don’t waste your time. I’m sorry I wasted mine. Squash a tomato and pass on this thing that bulls leave behind when the rodeo is over. (P.S.—C.Thomas Howell, you were definitely more interesting when you were picking up an insane homicidal hitchhiker in a monsoon!) See more Vince S Jul 12 Good story. Gritty acting. Enjoyed movie See more Gina R @GinaG Mar 14 From the description, I was expecting some sort of crime drama. Yes, there is a crime late in the movie, but there are no shootouts, no car chases, no shootouts... This is mostly a family drama. C Thomas Howell is eight years younger than me, but looks about ten years older, possibly due to major health issues in his past. Whatever the reason, his grizzled looks and growly voice are picture perfect for his role as the father struggling to pay for his daughter's medical bills, as well as re-connect with an estranged son fresh out of prison. He plays a salt-of-the-earth former champion bull rider, the middle of three generations. Interestingly, Howell's real-life father was a professional bull rider and he himself was a professional roper. So he has the street cred to play this role. Jake Allyn as the estranged son is equally good. His stoic demeanour is a mask under which he hides his guilt for a past mistake, while trying to work his way into his family's good graces with the help of his caring grandfather. The rest of the main cast are all equally strong. See more Christopher F Feb 11 Great performances by C Thomas Howell and Jake Allyn. Shows the real, gritty side of being poor and sick and addicted in rural America. Forrie J Smith is a standout in a supporting role as well.
