Allan C @RT15713161 Jul 1 Cornball western comfort food Riding the Wind (1942) **1/2 Tim Holt helps cattle ranchers being cheated out of their water rights by an email land baron. This is an early Holt western, so there’s no Richard Martin as Chito Rafferty just yet, but there are plenty of fist fights, gun fights, and chases on horseback that will satisfy fans of westerns, though, as with most Tim Holt RKO westerns, this is far from MY DARLING CLEMENTINE and is strictly Saturday Matinee cornball western fun. Also in this film’s favor, it was photographed by Harry J. Wild, who also photographed MURDER, MY SWEET, JOHNNY ANGEL, HIS KIND OF WOMAN, and GENTLEMEN PREFER BLONDS, so this oater looks better than most RKO productions. Overall, note a classic, but fun for anyone wanking a corny, undemanding western. Look fast for the great Hank Worden (Old Mose from THE SEARCHERS) in a small supporting role.
