It tries to juggle ’80s adventure vibes, coming-of-age beats, and light sci-fi, yet the script feels generic, with template dialogue and choices that don’t land. The young cast isn’t awful, but there’s not much charisma, and in this kind of movie you really need the group to be instantly likable. Add jittery editing and a "bigger than it is" vibe, and the whole thing ends up pretty forgettable. It can pass the time if you’re not demanding, but it’s hard to care. Nobody really grew in character, and the only development taking place seemed to have morphed individuals into goofballs you couldn't take that serious. One of the main protagonists was so dreadfully written, a part of me was hoping they'd get lost or die off. The shift in character priorities and their reasoning at times were so jarring and ridiculous, it was hard to believe. It was not a fun watch. While the concept has promise, the execution feels awkward and uneven. The tone is clearly aimed at younger viewers, yet the screenplay is filled with crude jokes and uncomfortable dialogue that feel wildly out of place for a children-focused film. Instead of being funny, it becomes distracting and off-putting. The CGI creatures lack polish and consistency, making the alien threat feel weightless rather than exciting. The biggest issue, however, is the acting. Most of the young cast struggle to deliver believable performances, and their characters feel poorly defined and inconsistent. Emotional moments fail to land, and it’s hard to stay invested in their journey. The lone bright spot is Alessio Scalzotto, who brings sincerity and credibility to his role and feels genuinely grounded compared to the rest of the cast. Cliches added to it for the adults and the grandson had no idea they were cliches. Something with nice action and appropriate for a preteen. Thought it was great.
