What to Know

Critics Consensus

Rim of the World is too bland to live up to the 80s teen adventures it references, and too full of clichés to be able to set itself apart from them.

Perri Nemiroff Perri Nemiroff (YouTube) For those with a soft spot for coming-of-age adventures, Rim of the World is just passable, but it's riddled with logic leaps, tonal inconsistencies and out of touch humor. Rated: 2.5/5 May 30, 2019 Full Review Jordan Hoffman TV Guide The clockwork storyline is brazen in its adherence to formula, as if a Learning Annex seminar somehow came to life. May 24, 2019 Full Review Nick Allen RogerEbert.com Its greatest value is probably in how it could educate budding movie-lovers on cheesy and predictable storytelling, but even that seems like a lesson Rim of the World cynically teaches at an elementary level. Rated: 1/4 May 24, 2019 Full Review Collier Jennings But Why Tho? A Geek Community A funny, character-driven film and a throwback to the sci-fi films that helped shape pop culture. Rated: 10 Jun 25, 2021 Full Review Olly Richards NME (New Musical Express) McG's biggest project in a while lacks the most important thing about the 80s films it tries to emulate - the sense of opening up a secret part of the world. Kristen H So there’s a bunch of 12 year olds running around cussing and talking about sex in a camp with camp leaders dressed extremely inappropriately, making out, drinking, and making sexual jokes to kids. I thought this was going to be was a kids movie. Seems like Hollywood isn’t even trying to hide their fondness for sexualizing children. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 11/09/24 Full Review Audience Member Who had this idea and thought it would make a good movie? Who read this fucking script and approved? A cheap copy of end of the world movies and Stranger Things. The characters are very poorly written and developed cliches, especially the mini Leonardo Dicaprio. It gave me physical pain. I hated the beginning, the middle, and especially the end. This movie is a bunch of teenagers thinking they are something and that they can save the world from an alien invasion, and the worst thing is that they really can. Aliens are horrible. 1,5/10 Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 10/26/24 Full Review Sophia B This is a great movie! I love it so much I could watch it 100 times. It’s funny and exiting. With lost of action and jokes. I definitely recommend! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/20/24 Full Review Sonia O It's a refreshing movie for kids . End of the world apocalytic kind of movie, follows 4 kids that went to camp for the summer and ended up saving the world from an alien invasion. Good for teenagers. It has bad reviews which I don't trust. I enjoyed it a lot! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/20/24 Full Review Angel R In my own opinion this movie is quite original. Not really sure which 80s throwback it supposedly based off but it was very enjoyable to watch. And tbh in a world with UDL, gaps in logic don't affect the story really at all. As well as the characters being not to hard to connect with. This movie is rated for 14 years and up so if anything it would make sense if any adults could not connect to these teen characters. Definitely a good movie to watch. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 07/21/24 Full Review Jeremy H I can't understand the poor ratings .. my family was laughing through the whole movie.
