What to Know

Critics Consensus

Rim of the World is too bland to live up to the 80s teen adventures it references, and too full of clichés to be able to set itself apart from them.

Perri Nemiroff Perri Nemiroff (YouTube) For those with a soft spot for coming-of-age adventures, Rim of the World is just passable, but it's riddled with logic leaps, tonal inconsistencies and out of touch humor. Rated: 2.5/5 May 30, 2019 Full Review Jordan Hoffman TV Guide The clockwork storyline is brazen in its adherence to formula, as if a Learning Annex seminar somehow came to life. May 24, 2019 Full Review Nick Allen RogerEbert.com Its greatest value is probably in how it could educate budding movie-lovers on cheesy and predictable storytelling, but even that seems like a lesson Rim of the World cynically teaches at an elementary level. Rated: 1/4 May 24, 2019 Full Review Collier Jennings But Why Tho? A Geek Community A funny, character-driven film and a throwback to the sci-fi films that helped shape pop culture. Angel R In my own opinion this movie is quite original. Not really sure which 80s throwback it supposedly based off but it was very enjoyable to watch. And tbh in a world with UDL, gaps in logic don't affect the story really at all. As well as the characters being not to hard to connect with. This movie is rated for 14 years and up so if anything it would make sense if any adults could not connect to these teen characters. Definitely a good movie to watch. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 07/21/24 Full Review Jeremy H I can't understand the poor ratings .. my family was laughing through the whole movie. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/15/24 Full Review Gustavo Z So boring. I know is for kids but come on, do better. Acting is so bad, even with this Nikelodeon kids in it. It is just not believable. Boring form me. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 06/07/24 Full Review Fedora I Definitely very cheesy and not for everyone but overall a pretty good movie. Besides the whole alien and Darish surviving with a giant, unmatched torso wound for hours, the movie was pretty rooted in reality. I know a pot of people think its crude, and that the jokes dont match kids those age, but the crudeness goes away quickly, and middle schoolers talk abt sex all the time. Honestly, I loved the characters and their development, even if we didnt get to learn much abiut some of their backstories. My main gripe is the end, I would've liked to see more of the aftermath, rather then just a montage of things they did after Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 05/05/24 Full Review Koi P Action and suspense. My heart breaks for the main characters. Their friendship and bonding with each other and acceptance of their unique personas and situations is worth watching. A few inappropriate jokes (especially for young people), but overall a funny, suspensful and heartwarming movie. The alien is scary. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/16/24 Full Review Krister S I did not bother watch the entire film. The first 10 minutes are already boring, full of dry humor and nonsense dialogues, and a total script disaster. The film shifting to a yellow tint was an eyesore.
