Risen wont fare well with impatient streamers. Writer-director Eddie Arya should be applauded for his creative ambition, but even the most forward-thinking filmmakers need strong performances to sell their product.

Considering the ambitious nature of the story, Risen deserves some points for at least trying to do something different and if it is ultimately a miss in the end, at least it is a near-miss.

If you happen to be a fan of sci-fi, especially involving extraterrestrial encounters, then I strongly recommend you to absolutely avoid this film like the bubonic plague. The premise and introduction really intrigued me, then it fell into one of the most boring, dull and sterile films I have seen in the last 10 years. Just look for something else.

This is movie is bad, but in such weird ways it is almost worth watching just to marvel at the shocking shifts in production quality and incoherent tone, all centered around perhaps the most uncharismatic lead performance I have ever seen.
