Audience Member Wow, I can't believe 117 people have rated this little gem already! This Canadian 'road' flick is really the story of 4 very different men, each on a different 'quest', traveling west in a beat-up yellow honda. There are so many ironies, much satire, laugh-out-loud humour and great, wide-open prairie skies. This film pokes gentle but respectful fun at Canadian stereotypes while the 'heroes' make their way to Saddle River, which serves as the film's symbolic holy grail. There is almost a complete absence of female presence in this film which I thought was interesting. It is really hard to convey in words just what a little treasure this film is. I don't know if it is available on DVD yet (it's a National Film Board production) but you can sign it out from your local library. This is the only film I have ever seen five times, mostly because I keep wanting to share it with others and end up watching it again with them. I see another viewer on this site calls it the 'trans-canada version of the Wizard of Oz' and he is right. But it is much, much funnier. Hmm... maybe I'll set up a facebook fan page for it '-) Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/16/23 Full Review Audience Member This is one odd adventure of a few odd misfits. Has an odd post modern twist that helps increase the level of absurdity to an otherwise ignorable film. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member Hilarious... good luck trying to find it though. The Canadian Wizard of Oz! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Lafe F A quirky journey across Canada with a bunch of characters seeking answers to their emptiness, which can hopefully be filled at Saddle River. It's a Trans-Canada version of the Wizard of Oz? A shy immigrant man wants be a cowboy. He teams up with some strange characters. They have misadventures along the way; and we see great Canadian scenery. It's a charming and meditative movie. The "Home on the Range" finale is quite peaceful. This needs a DVD release.
